Installing an air conditioning system is a big decision. Here are our frequently asked questions. With so much to consider, we hope this section will answer some of your questions.

Air Conditioner Unit

Q: What Capacity Air Conditioner do I need?

A: Draw a simple floor plan and measure the room's dimensions. Calculate the room's square footage (length x width), multiply 50 BTUH/sq ft, and the resulting number is the BTUH requirement.

Example: A room that is 10 feet x 15 feet.
10 ft x 15 ft = 150 sq ft
150 sq ft x 50 (BTUH/sq.ft) = 7500.
This room would require a 7500 BTUH Air Conditioner.

Q: I have an older home, can my home handle the extra electrical load from an air conditioner?

A: Most homes are equipped with 100 AMP service. When our estimator arrives, he will check to make sure the service is adequate to handle the load.

Q: Can I re-use the ducting which is already installed for my old Ducted Air Conditioner?

A: Ducting is sized and placed according to the house layout and the desired air distribution. As long as the ductwork meets the requirements of both the unit and the air-conditioned space, it is fine to keep the old ducting if it is in good condition. This would need to be confirmed with your air conditioning designer and installer for your particular requirements.

Q: Can I re-use the piping which is already installed for my old Air Conditioner?

It is not always recommended to re-use the same piping and wiring for new units as different systems have different piping and electrical requirements.

Maintenance & Care

Q: What types of Maintenance are available? How long will the maintenance take?

A: Plus Maintenance: Washing of filters, cleaning of drain line, check of refrigerant levels, general check of entire system, performance check and dismantling of indoor unit and washing blower wheel. Approximately 1 hr 45 min - 2 hours.

Q: How often should I clean my air conditioner filters or have a maintenance performed by Air Masters, Inc.?

A: For mini-split units, you should clean your filters on your own once or twice a month.
If you have a central air conditioner with disposable-type filters, you should change them out every month.
Maintenance performed by Air Masters, Inc. is recommended at least once a year, sometimes even twice a year, depending on usage. The more you use your unit, the dirtier it gets.

Repairs & Troubleshoot

Q: My remote is not working after I had changed the batteries. What should I do?

A: When changing out the batteries for your remote, make sure the following are done:
1. Brand new batteries are used.
2. Make sure to reset your remote by pushing the reset or ACL button located in the back or front of the remote.

Q: Are repairs and parts readily available?

A: Yes. Most parts are available locally and we service air conditioners usually on the same day.

Durability & Lifespan

Q: What is the life expectancy of an air conditioner?

A: Ductless Split Systems and Central Units usually last from 10 to 15 years.

Q: How durable is the outdoor unit to sun/wind/rain?

A: Outdoor units are designed for outdoor environment. As long as they have been installed and secured correctly, these units can withstand day-to-day wind, rain, and sun.
